Well before the world discovered Tinder, Indians were using match making service to find soul mates. For our readers abroad this is a real thing. We Indians, get married using classifieds all the time. It’s called an ‘arranged marriage’ and there’s an App for that too.

Mobile Apps and what people use are often great indicators of how the culture of a country and its mind set is evolving.

Divorcee Matrimony. Not that I’m happy that people are getting divorced or anything but it’s existence is an interesting indicator of changing socio-cultural norms in India. In fact its market share is nearly the same as the divorce rate in India ~ 1%.

The basic premise of incentivized downloads is extremely questionable. I’ve spoken to a number of entrepreneurs who’ve tried these apps to boost downloads. All of them complained about the lack of stickiness amongst customers that these apps bring you, some of them admitted to using such channels to boost downloads ahead of a fundraise! Ahem.

20 years after it started — Shaadi.com (shaadi = wedding) is still growing in the Indian Matrimonial market and they’re taking market share away from the likes of Bharat Matrimony (Bharat = India) & JeevanSaathi (Jeevan Saathi = Life Partner).

JeevanSaathi has had a pretty rough year though things are looking up now. Not sure we can say the same for BM.

Thanks for your time,
