Average of 6 month Market share by App Installs between Oct 2016 & March 2017 in Social media

According to Google — VK is the largest European online social media and social networking service. It is available in many different languages and is especially popular among Russian-speaking users. Their market share is small (0.5% — see below). But my question is this: Why are Indian users even on it? Are they just targeting Indian users and driven by our fascination for white skin are people here downloading the app in the hope of — I don’t even know what. Fraandship?

Snap’s attrition may seem high but remember that there are people like me who’ll download it and then wonder how in the world is this even a thing? I expect this to remain high as Indian users discover the platform and then try to figure out whether they even want to be there. Its far better suited to those under 25 who’ve grown up on a diet of social media permeating in to every sphere of their lives. Me? I’m perfectly happy going for a run and not telling the world about it.

I was surprised by Facebook lites attrition simply because it’s so high. If you have any ideas why — ping me.

Both Instagram and Facebook still have a lot of room to grow in India. It’s no wonder they’re investing so heavily in this market.
