We’ve been talking for some time about how there are startups strewn across India, proliferating at a surprising rate, getting user engagement and doing all of this — without any external funding!
Today, we’re giving you an example of a real company that we’ve seen pop up in our system of late. For the sake of mystery and to get you to pay attention, we’ll call it company ‘X’ (And yes, of course, you can write in and find out more).
Hint: it’s in Media. Read on for stats.
Remember, that 1% reach is equal to anywhere between 2 & 3 million downloads. While that’s not large by media standards, it’s impressive as an initial growth spurt and given the absence of external funding.
Relative to its peers too, Company ‘X’ is doing quite well considering that its competitors are all funded or owned by large media conglomerates.
With nearly 50K reviews (not much in the scheme of things, but still) Company X has got one of the highest NPS (Net Promoter Score) that we have ever seen.
In terms of user profiling too, the Avg monthly expenditures for company ‘X’ are higher than most.
FYI — for those who don’t think that much, this is pretty much the same as Ola & Uber customers.
Why am I so excited about this? For many reasons, these companies are really worth exploring:
- How did they grow so fast without significant marketing spends?
- What audience are they focusing on?
- Why is there such hyper growth within this segment?
But also and perhaps more importantly:
- For investors, these companies represent somewhat saner valuations with lower cheque sizes.
- For entrepreneurs in media, these companies could be attractive acquisition targets and easy Segway into a new space.
